Who we are?
Banks for Animals is a project launched in 2021 by international NGO Sinergia Animal to bring more transparency to the financial sector. The goal is to raise awareness about the policies (or the lack of them) from banks and investors around the world when it comes to credit and investments that don’t comply with the most basic requirements of animal welfare.
How does it work?
You put your money in a bank or invest in funds.
Financial institutions use the accumulated money of their clients to make loans and investments in a myriad of businesses.
Your money is then used to finance these activities, among them some of the worst forms of animal cruelty.
We assess the policies of banks and investors around the world may have in regards to animal welfare and create a score to increase transparency.
You decide if your bank is doing well, and if they need to do better, you can send them a message through our website or even consider changing banks.
Financial institutions are held accountable and may see the need to improve their policies.
However...
Banks for Animals only assesses the policies and not their execution, meaning we cannot assure the banks are enforcing their own promises.
Banks for Animals’ criteria tackle only the worst forms of animal cruelty. We consider these to be the most critical standards to be followed. Nonetheless, we do not endorse any form of animal exploitation, even when higher animal welfare practices are followed.
